October 23 - AM Northwest

Today was my second appearance on AM Northwest on Channel 2. It was so much fun being able to talk about one of the most important traditions of the reception, the wedding cake. Debra from White Rose Bakery provided me with three beautiful cakes, a fun grooms cake, some cup cakes and cake pops. It's hard to fit everything into a six minute segment, but it's sure fun trying!!!

In my short time I tired to touch on some alternative ideas, but like I said, time ran out fast. You can view my segment by clicking this link. I have also included below some of the other things I was hoping to talk about, but didn't get time to.

Weddings cakes: Started out as breads and “brides pie” then changed into cakes.

In the early 19th century, the “bride's pie” was served at most weddings. Guests were expected to have a piece out of politeness, it was considered very rude and bad luck not to eat any.

The cakes were traditionally made to bring good luck to all guests and the couple. Modernly, however, they are more of a centerpiece.

One of the first traditions began iAncient Rome where bread was broken over the bride’s head to bring good fortune to the couple and fertility to the bride. This was the beginning of the cake smashing.

The feeding of the cake symbolizes the couples desire to provide for and care for each other.

Wedding cake pull charm: It’s a Southern tradition that happens during the reception. Bridesmaids and other attendants pulled the ribbons and charms out of the cake. Each charm has a different meaning, ring: next to get married, heart: new love, wishing well: a wish will be granted.
